Your Precious Life

Midlife brings so many parts and pieces of our life, health, and goals into the spotlight. We begin to question our decisions a little more, desiring to be more intentional about the second half of the game. A big aspect for me has been around the legacy I want to leave. What do I want to be known for among my family and friends once I'm gone? What matters most when determining where to expend the precious, finite energy I still have?

This is going to be a bit of a journaling prompt for you. What impact did you envision yourself having on the world by now? Are you taking action to "be the change you wish to see in the world"? Are you ahead of schedule, behind schedule or right on course?

Our goals and dreams evolve over the course of life, but our legacy is the way in which we impacted our families and our communities, no matter how small. After all, it takes the collective work of many toward one goal in order to create real impact. What do you want to be part of?

If you're reading this and you're in your 20s, this still applies to you. Maybe you're not at midlife and maybe you're beyond midlife, either way there's time. You have an opportunity to make a difference in the ways you dreamed about. I believe the best place to start is at home. Sure, we can go out and immediately start to put our energy into our passion, but start with family. Talk to them about the areas you want to impact. Get their experiences and opinions. Let them know your vision and why it's important to you. Your biggest impact and best support system begins with those closest to you.

Grab your notebook and record your impact, what you've done toward it, what you still want to do, who you can bring into your circle to support you, and write down what success will look like for you. This can be a powerful exercise. Allow yourself the time and permission to be vulnerable and honest with yourself.
